Entrevista exclusiva con Dar.Ra sobre su EP “Blood N Treasure”

¡Es un honor presentarles a Dar.Ra, el renombrado artista londinense que está a punto de cautivar nuevamente a los amantes de la música con su esperado EP 'Blood N Treasure', que fue lanzado el 26 de junio de 2023!
Además de su éxito musical, Dar.Ra se ha convertido en una figura influyente en la industria, presentando su programa Kusha Deep Radio que se transmite en estaciones de todo el mundo. La evolución del artista como productor y compositor ha sido elogiada por expertos de la industria, y su estilo único y su mezcla de rock y soul lo han destacado en la escena musical.

1. ¿Qué inspiró el título del EP y cómo se refleja en la música y las letras que presenta? // What inspired the title of the EP and how is it reflected in the music and lyrics it features?

Dar.Ra (Spa): En primer lugar, puedo decir gracias por invitarme a estar en su revista y también decir cuánto amo a Argentina y su gente increíble. Realmente espero tocar en vivo allí algún día pronto.El EP 'Blood N Treasure' trata sobre la búsqueda del hombre por el dominio sobre los recursos de otro hombre y cuánto sacrificarán para lograrlo. La obra de arte representa al último soldado de una batalla que intenta encontrar el camino a casa después de darlo todo para satisfacer ese deseo sediento de sangre de conquistar a toda costa.   'No Time For Tears', la balada de rock que aparece en el EP, es la antítesis del título como su resistencia a través del poder del amor y la solidaridad. Al final eso es todo lo que tenemos si tenemos suerte mientras visitamos este extraño y hermoso planeta tierra.'Cure For Jealousy' pregunta si los humanos pueden ir más allá de nuestros deseos primitivos y encontrar un mecanismo menos reactivo a nuestros comportamientos desencadenados.

Dar.Ra (Eng): Firstly, can I say thank you for inviting me to be in your magazine and to also say how much I love Argentina and its incredible people. I really hope to play live there one day soon.

The 'Blood N Treasure' EP is about mans quest for dominance over another mans resources and how much they will sacrifice to achieve that. The artwork depicts that last solider of a battle trying to find a way home after giving everything to satisfy that blood thirsty desire of conquering at all costs.  'No Time For Tears' the rock ballad that features on the EP is the antithesis of the title as its resistance through the power of love and solidarity. In the end thats all we have if we are lucky while we visit this strange and beautiful planet earth.‘Cure For Jealousy’ is asking if humans can go beyond our primitive desires and find a less reactive mechanism to our triggered behaviours.

2. Como artista, has experimentado con una combinación única de géneros musicales. ¿Cómo logras fusionar rock, soul y electrónica para crear tu distintivo subgénero "Rock Step"? // As an artist, she has experimented with a unique combination of musical genres. How do you manage to fuse rock, soul and electronica to create your distinctive "Rock Step" subgenre?

Dar.Ra (Spa): Realmente no me propongo hacer nada si soy honesto, estas cosas simplemente suceden como resultado de mi intento de encontrar un nuevo marco de trabajo para un lienzo para las historias en las que estoy trabajando. si regresas a mi primer lanzamiento discográfico en EMI/Chrysalis allá por los 90 llamado 'Reach Out', estaba usando el sonido de música house de Paradise Garage para sostener una letra sobre la expresión ilimitada y no permitir que nadie apague tu luz. Siempre he pensado en las historias, y la música era un marco perfecto para expresarme. ¡He escrito un par de libros y me gusta ese medio ya que no estás limitado por el tiempo!

Dar.Ra (Eng): I don't really set out to do anything if Im honest, these things just happen as a result of me trying to find a new frame work for a canvas for the storylines that I'm working on. if you go back to my first record release on EMI/Chrysalis back in the 90s called 'Reach Out', I was using the Paradise Garage house music sound to hold a lyric about limitless expression and not allowing anyone to dim your light. I've always thought in storylines, and music was a perfect frame to use to express myself with. I've written a couple of books and like that medium as you are not limited by time!

3. A lo largo de tu carrera, has sido elogiado por tu evolución como productor y compositor. ¿Qué te ha motivado a explorar nuevos sonidos y estilos a lo largo de los años y cómo ha influido en la creación de "Blood N Treasure"? // Throughout your career, he has been praised for your evolution as a producer and songwriter. What has motivated you to explore new sounds and styles over the years and how has it influenced the creation of "Blood N Treasure"?

Dar.Ra (Spa): Podría haberme quedado haciendo el mismo disco una y otra vez cuando firmé por primera vez. Las personas triunfan y se hacen conocidas por una vibra y luego quedan prisioneras en un agujero creativo que han cavado para sí mismas.Siempre me preocupaba quedar atrapado en algún género.Significa que no he tenido el tipo de éxito que tienen algunos artistas al hacer la rutina de fórmula y ordeñarla. Es un camino difícil ser el tipo de artista que no jugará el juego, te diviertes más creativamente y haces los discos que quieres hacer, pero la industria te castigará por ser reacio a hacer lo que te dicen.

Dar.Ra (Eng): I could have stuck making the same record over and over again when I first got signed. People make it big and get known for a vibe and then become imprisoned by creative hole they have dug for themselves.I was always worried about getting caught in any one genre.It's meant that I've not had the kind of success that some artists have by doing the formula routine and milking it. Its a hard road being the kind of artist that won't play the game, you have more creative fun and make records you want to make, but the industry will punish you for being reluctant to do as your told.

4. Además de la música en sí, eres conocido por tu presencia en la radio y como presentador del programa Kusha Deep Radio. ¿Cómo equilibras tus responsabilidades en la radio con tu trabajo como músico y cómo crees que estas experiencias se complementan mutuamente? // In addition to the music itself, you are known for your radio presence and as the host of the Kusha Deep Radio show. How do you balance your radio responsibilities with your work as a musician and how do you think these experiences complement each other?

Dar.Ra (Spa): Es bueno apoyar a otros artistas en los que crees y, a veces, es bueno tocar para una multitud un set que los dejará sintiéndose a mil millas de altura. Cuando tienes algunos trabajos, debes ser bueno para hacer malabarismos y asegurarte de poner el 100% de amor en todo lo que haces. La vida es un hermoso juego.

Dar.Ra (Eng): It's good to support other artists you believe in, and sometimes it's good to play to a crowd a set that will leave them feeling a thousand miles high. When you have a few jobs you have to get good at juggling and making sure you put 100% love into everything you do. Life is a beautiful game.

5. Los críticos de la industria han elogiado tu música como única y distintiva. ¿Cómo te sientes al recibir este reconocimiento y cómo te ayuda a mantener una identidad artística sólida en un panorama musical en constante cambio? // Industry critics have praised your music as unique and distinctive. How do you feel about receiving this recognition and how does it help you maintain a strong artistic identity in an ever-changing music landscape?

Dar.Ra (Spa): Siempre es bueno recibir elogios, pero no es por eso que lo hago. Solo tengo que producir lo que escucho en mi cabeza y si a la gente le gusta, todos son ganadores. Cada pista me transporta a un momento en el tiempo y me recuerda lo que estaba pasando en el momento de hacer la grabación. Son cápsulas del tiempo. Eso es lo asombroso de la música, te llevará atrás y te recordará los lugares, las personas y las cosas por las que pasaste, lo que puede devolverte un espectro completo de emociones, lo que a su vez puede curar heridas pasadas.

Hago un taller de música para personas con traumas cerebrales, y la música funciona siempre para traer recuerdos y crear movimiento para las personas, que de otra manera estarían frente a una pantalla de televisión todo el día. Es muy gratificante llevar Joy a la gente de esa manera.

Dar.Ra (Eng): It's always good to get praise, but it's not why I do it. I've just got to produce what I hear in my head and if people like it then everyone is a winner. Every track takes me back to a moment in time and reminds me of what I was going through at the time of making the recording. They are time capsules. That's the amazing thing about music, it will take you back and remind you of places, people and things you where going through which can a full spectrum of emotions back to you, which in turn can heal past hurts.

I do a music workshop for people with brain traumas, and music works every time to bring back memories and create movement for people, who otherwise would be starring at a TV screen all day. It's so rewarding to bring Joy to people in that way.

6. "Rise Like The Sun" ha sido destacado como una de las mejores canciones lanzadas en su año. ¿Qué significado tiene esta canción para ti y cómo se relaciona con la evolución y los cambios en tu carrera musical? // "Rise Like The Sun" has been highlighted as one of the best songs released in its year. What meaning does this song have for you and how does it relate to the evolution and changes in your musical career?

Dar.Ra (Spa): Se trata de la guerra de clases en Gran Bretaña y cómo los ricos se salen con la suya mientras los pobres son controlados desde el nacimiento hasta la tumba. La línea 'He estado en la tierra tratando de levantarme de la cuneta a las estrellas' es esa lucha por sacar la cabeza por encima de la línea del agua. “Quiero levantarme como el sol y vivir todos los días como si fuera el último y significar algo para alguien” es la necesidad de ser reconocido como un ser humano en lugar de un número.

Dar.Ra (Eng):  It's about the class war in Britain and how the rich get away with murder while the poor are controlled from birth to grave. The line 'I've been down in the dirt trying to rise up from the gutter to the stars' is that struggle to get your head above the water line. “I wanna rise like the sun and live everyday like it's my last and mean something to someone' is that need to be recognized as a human rather than a number.

7. Con tantos logros y reconocimientos en tu carrera, ¿cómo te mantienes enfocado en seguir desafiándote a ti mismo como artista y qué objetivos esperas alcanzar con la música que creas en el futuro? // With so many achievements and accolades in your career, how do you stay focused on continuing to challenge yourself as an artist and what goals do you hope to achieve with the music you create in the future?

Dar.Ra (Spa): Bob Dylan dijo una vez "si crees que has llegado, probablemente se haya acabado". Una vez que dejas de intentar hacer algo nuevo y sigues creciendo, terminas en esta vida, te estancas y mueres.Seguiré buscando nuevas tiendas que contar y buscaré nuevas formas de contarlas. Tal vez una historia sobre un muchacho nacido en Irlanda que se muda a Argentina y se enamora de una profesora de tango y crean una nueva dinastía política que lleva a la gente a los triunfos más grandes que el mundo jamás haya visto.

Dar.Ra (Eng): Bob Dylan once said ‘if you think you’ve arrived then it’s probably over’. Once you stop trying to make something new and keep growing then you’re done in this life, you stagnate and die. I will keep looking for new stores to tell and look for new ways to tell them. Maybe a story about an Irish born lad who moves to Argentina and falls in love with a Tango teacher and they create a new political dynasty that leads the people to the greatest triumphs the world has ever seen.
