Interview with Richie Harrison Music about is single "The Rope"

Richie Harrison es un artista británico que, tras 20 años formando parte de diversas bandas, decidió enfrentar su ansiedad y lanzar su música en solitario. Su estilo fusiona géneros como el grunge y el punk, creando un sonido crudo y visceral. Su nuevo sencillo, "The Rope", que se lanzó el 12 de septiembre, es una respuesta a la confusión y frustración generada por el ruido mediático durante las elecciones. La canción refleja el desencanto de Richie hacia la política y las opiniones en redes sociales, con potentes guitarras y una energía explosiva que canaliza su descontento.

• 1- ¿Cómo nació Richie Harrison Music y qué le motivó a iniciar este proyecto? // How was Richie Harrison Music born and what motivated you to start this project?

Richie Harrison (Spa): Mi viaje musical comenzó en cuanto agarré una guitarra, supongo. Empecé a escribir enseguida. Aunque me llevó mucho tiempo escribir una canción decente, jaja.

Riche Harrison (Eng): My musical journey began as soon as I picked up a guitar I suppose. I started writing straight away. Although it took my a long time to write a decent song haha.

• 2- 2- ¿Cómo surgió la idea de esta canción? // How did the idea for this song come about?

Richie Harrison (Spa): La idea de la letra de esta canción surgió durante las elecciones generales en el Reino Unido. Estaba harto de ver estupideces por todas partes. Desde políticos a idiotas en las redes sociales diciendo estupideces. Como si no fueran a quejarse sin importar quién entre. Hay extremistas en ambos bandos. Son tan malos unos como otros y no pueden verlo. Supongo que de esto trata esta canción. Para la gente que está harta de tonterías. Las tonterías absolutas.

Richie Harrison (Eng): The idea for the lyrics for this song came about during the general election in the UK. I was just sick of seeing absolute bullshit everywhere. From politicians to idiots on social media talking absolute shite. Like they aren't going to complain no matter who gets in. You have the extremists on both sides. They are just as bad as each other and they can't see that. I suppose this is what this song is about. For people who are fed up with the bollocks. The absolute nonsense.

• 3- ¿Cómo fue el proceso de composición y grabación? ¿Se enfrentó a algún reto en particular? // How was the process of writing and recording? Did you face any particular challenges?

Richie Harrison (Spa):  Siempre grabo mis canciones en mi estudio casero, que consiste en mí en la habitación de enfrente con mis guitarras, mac, micro, interfaz de audio y mi perro intentando lamerme la cara mientras grabo la guitarra. Así que diría que esa es la parte difícil. Mantener al perro entretenido.

Richie Harrison (Eng): I always record my songs in my home studio which consists of me in my front room with my guitars, mac, mic, audio interface and my dog trying to lick my face while recording guitar. So I would say that's the hard part. Keeping the dog entertained.

• 4- ¿Qué importancia tiene para usted que su música sea un reflejo de sus sentimientos más personales? // How important is it for you that your music is a reflection of your most personal feelings?

Richie Harrison (Spa):  En realidad no lo es. Simplemente escribo sobre ello porque es lo que pienso o lo que ya llevo dentro. A veces una canción simplemente sale de ti. Es bastante extraño. Tardas 5 minutos en escribir algunas de tus mejores canciones porque se escriben solas. Obviamente, añades o quitas más cosas de lo que escribes inicialmente, pero el grueso de la canción está ahí. Escribir música es una especie de terapia, además de una salida creativa.

Richie Harrison (Eng):  It's not really. I just write about it because that's what I'm thinking or what's inside me already. Sometimes a song just comes out of you. It's quite weird. Like it takes 5 minutes to write some of your best tunes because they just write themselves. You obviously add or take away more from what you initially write but the main bulk of the song is there. It's a kind of therapy, writing music, as well as a creative output.

• 5- Tras el éxito de "The Firing Line", ¿qué espera del estreno de "The Rope"? // After the success of "The Firing Line", what are you looking forward to with the release of "The Rope"?

Richie Harrison (Spa): ¿Sabes cuál es la parte más difícil de todo esto? Conseguir que la gente escuche tu música. Supongo que la respuesta a esta pregunta es que la gente la escuche, es una canción muy buena, estoy muy orgulloso de ella. Stefan, que la mezcló, también hizo un trabajo increíble. Sabía exactamente lo que quería y le dio ese sonido atmosférico. Sí, que la gente lo escuche estaría bien.

Richie Harrison (Eng): You know what the hardest part of it all is!? Getting people to listen to your music. So I guess the answer to this question is having people hear it, it's a really good song, like I'm really proud of it. Stefan who mixed it did an amazing job as well. He knew exactly what I wanted and gave it that atmospheric sound. Yeah people listening to it would be nice.

• 6- ¿Piensa seguir experimentando con diferentes géneros o estilos en futuras producciones? // Do you plan to continue experimenting with different genres or styles in future productions?

Richie Harrison (Spa): Ya veremos. No me importa exponer mi música si nadie va a escucharla. Tal vez sea una mierda, ¿quién sabe? A mí me gusta. Así que el álbum podría ser el último de mi música. Pero si continúo, seguiré probando cosas nuevas. Nunca dejaré de escribir música, sólo de publicarla. No creo que haga eso nunca más. Demasiado trabajo duro. Me gusta el lado creativo de las cosas, así que escribir, grabar y construir una canción es mi parte favorita.

Richie Harrison (Eng):  We'll see. I can't be bothered with putting myself out there with my music if no one is going to listen. Maybe it's shite, who knows!? I like it. So the album might be the last of my music. But yeah if I do continue I'd definitely keep on trying new things. I mean, I'm never going to quit writing music, just releasing it. I don't think I'll do that anymore. Too much hard work. I enjoy the creative side of things, so the writing, recording and building a song is my favourite part anyway.

• 7- ¿Qué le gustaría que se llevara el público después de escuchar la canción? // What would you like the audience to take away after listening to the song?

Richie Harrison (Spa): Me gustaría que el público sintiera algo. Creo que, al fin y al cabo, de eso va la música. La música es algo increíble. Puede hacerte sentir todas las emociones en 3 minutos o puede no hacerte sentir nada. Solo espero que quien escuche mi música sienta algo.

Richie Harrison (Eng):  I'd like the audience to feel something. I think that's what music is about after all. It's an amazing thing music. It can make you feel every emotion there is in 3 minutes or it can make you feel nothing. I just hope whoever listens to my music feels something.
